i think i know what you're talkin about
1. click on tools
2. then auto correct
3. then autoformat
4. then fractions (1/2) with fraction character

Just type in 1/2 hit the space bar and Word will automatically convert it to the small 1/2.

go to start > all programs > accessories > system tools > character map. look through there for the 1/2 symbol. look at the bottom left corner of the box itll show you something like "alt+0186". go into word, and hold the 'alt' buttion and type in the numbers, then let go of alt, and it will appear. i would tell you the exact numbers, but i deleated the char map from my version of windows. if you need anymore help just email me.

go to character map, it's under programs and system tools then simply look for the sign and copy paste or insert symbol

go to insert, then click symbol...then look for the half symbol
