dogs eat grass for two reasons mostly, 1) to help them fully digest food and prevent an upset stomach. 2) when they are bored. IT is common for dogs to eat grass because of the type of food they are fed. In the wild, wolves eat anything and everyting that they catch and kill including the intestines, muscles and fat of their prey. There are nutrients used for digestion in those parts that aren't naturally found in many dog foods. So, dogs eat grass to compansate. Grass does not replace the nutrients but instead gives a variation of them.

Both of my dogs eat grass when they have an upset stomach. I notice that if they aren't really eating and/or have diarrhea, they will eat grass. Something about it helps calm their stomach.

i know this is gross but i heard that if they have an upset stomache grass makes them vomit and feel better
