Very interesting set of responses so far.... I asked it because I saw that someone in a different forum recommended it for dogs. I've never done it and wanted to find out if anyone has actually heard about doing this as well.

Yes, you can use Claritin, but NOT Claritin-D, which contains pseudophedrine.

Check with your veterinarian for the proper dosage for your dog's weight, and make sure that is in fact allergies that are bothering your dog before giving any medication.

Keep in mind that when we have allergies, we sneeze, but dogs itch! There can be a number of reasons for the itch, from allergies to fleas to dry skin. And if the itch is so bad that the dog is chewing itself apart, they're going to need something stronger than an antihistamine.

Usually our veterinarian will recommend Benadryl because there is less chance of interaction with other medications and less chance of side affects. In a severe case, we WILL do an allergy test and recommend a montly vaccine for any detected allergens.

No it's not safe to give you dog claritin ( this has lots of side effects and actually can do more damage then good, I would suggest you seeking a vet and asking about benadryl ( I as a vet have told many people to use this that cannot afford 400$ as a vet bill... it goes by weight ( 1-2 mg/lb body weight two to four times a day.) but please read below before trying anything...

However, most vets have been unwilling to discuss the possibility of
canine allergies, specifically whether or not it would be safe to give
the dog Claritin or Benadryl to ease the symptoms. I know that ( I ) cannot offer a diagnosis or a recommendation of treatment
over the Internet based on this information, ( WITH ALL THAT SAID TALK TO A VET AND TELL THEM YOUR SITUATION, SOME WILL HELP YOU OUT )

NO

I take Claritin D. But I don't advise you to give it to your pet due to these reasons:
1) Claritin D is a prescribed drug. Therefore, even if the allergic person WAS a human, you shouldn't give it to them unless it's prescribed, because only doctors know if it's safe and won't create a negative reaction.
2) Pets typically have their own type of meds. Would you take an allergy pill that's prescribed for dogs?

Here's what I'd do:
1) Clear the air. Open some windows, vaccuum the house to rid the air of dust mites or that provokes the sinuses and allergies of humans and animals.
2) Go to the vet if the allergies become extremely problematic.
3) Consult an animal handbook if you have one.

Hope this helps.

The are over the counter medications that are effective for treating certain allergies in dogs. However, after a quick search for info on the net I found the following information, which I believe is good advice: "Before giving any medication to a pet, even over-the-counter pills, check with your vet. One danger with buying an allergy medicine for your dog is many allergy pills also contain substances such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), which can kill your pet."

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU0af

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Yea I think it'd be best if you asked a vet. BUT I do give my dog benagryl (however you spell that lol) for his allergies and it was approved by our vet. But it's always a good idea to ask YOUR vet 1st.

NO!

Take him to a vet. Depending on the type of allergy a shampoo may work (skin allergy) or another medication. Never give your pet over the counter meds without checking with a vet because the dosing is much different and certain meds can kill them.
