i haven't actually done this myself, but I've seen it done a LOT. Go to a Broadway show, enjoy yourself, have a great time. After the show, get out as fast as you can and go to the stage door and wait out there for the actors to some out. Usually they'll sign autographs. I don;t know about photos though - they're all gross from just having finished a show - all sweaty and covered in running makeup and such, but its worth a try!
Vanessa Williams is usually really nice about it. - at least she was during "Into the Woods" about two years ago...
worse come to worse... you could always just write them a note asking. :-)

See a show, then afterwards wait at the stage door. Actors always come out and they're always really nice and are willing to sign autographs and take pictures.
Sutton Foster is currently in "The Drowsy Chaperone" at the Marquis Theatre, which is on Broadway and 46th St. The show is only 90 minutes. The stage door is to the left of the box office on the 46th street side. Sutton is one of the nicest ladies out there. She's really sweet.

on the degree door make certain you've your pen and digicam waiting. Sutton is incredibly renowned so human beings will truly be there. Smile and say hi. She'll probably already comprehend what to do. Ask in case you are able to grab a short photo consisting of her. Say thanks. She's incredibly tremendous, so that you gained't have any issues. Tip: between Matinee and nighttime shows actors do not pop out the degree door continuously. And be prepared to face there as a lot as an hour after the teach ends.

I perform on Broadway, and I must warn you; like someone else said we're all sweaty and make up covered. When the show is over we try to get out as fast as we can since we've been there all day in most cases, and occasionally we'll do autographs. In all the shows I've never seen anyone ask for pictures, but it's worth a shot. Also, watch out for prima donna's ha ha. You could get insulted pretty bad ha ha. Never hurts to ask...

Anything Marin Mazzie and Brian Stokes Mitchell are in are good bets too.... they are both amazingly down to earth for Tony Award winning actors. I have heard that Lea Thompson is very sweet in person as well. So is Toni Tennille (sp?). Though I don't know what Broadway show they would be in, the Smother's Brothers are a hoot to talk to and very personable. Warning - avoid Mickey Rooney at all costs!! Though his wife, Jan, is very sweet.
But let me reiterate... STAGE DOOR!

Stage door! After a show, wait at the stage door for the cast to come out. You usually have to get out there fairly quickly to meet big names like Sutton Foster, but it's worth it. Like others said, they are usually sweaty and stuff, but I know the cast of Rent does a lot of pictures.
Also, check out their solo careers. Many do concerts and stuff which are great for meeting them.
Another thing, you never know who you'll run into just out and about! When we were seeing Movin' Out, my sister spotted Marvin Hamlisch and got his autograph.

I guess the best thing would be to hang around outside of broadway theaters before and after shows. Find out where the back doors are and park yourself.
