The chicken got tired of wallowing in all the crap in his coop. He was sick and tired of the other chickens' denying the existence of a Farmer who loved the chickens and was calling the chickens to lay eggs across the road. Despite the Farmer's many warnings that all chickens who remained in the coop one day would be deep fried, most chickens chose to believe they all evolved out of nothing. Even those who believed the Farmer existed sacrificed their unborn to throw eggs at Him.

In a moment of personal humility, a chicken admitted to the Farmer that he (the chicken) could not cross the road by himself and needed the Farmer's help. The Farmer sent over his only Son, Who helped the willing chicken to cross the road and start laying eggs with similar-minded chickens.

Because god willed it so

Because all of the other chickens viewed the universe, and in their view, that chicken would cross the road.

Because the chicken, who had not yet obtained nirvana, had the desire to cross the road.

Because the side of the road he was on had a great deal of bottomfeeders, and we all know how kosher those things aren't.

Because the chicken died (The road is symbolic of the divide between heaven and eart)

Hmm....

The chicken cross the road because the 12 apostles were running after it to split it into pieces to feed the masses. Do you remember when Jesus told the apostles to split the bread and fish to feed thousands of people? Well some of the people prefered chicken to fish so the chicken was running for its life.
