My tabby runs around with a little stuffed animal in her mouth, meowing loudly (almost a howl). It's really funny. I'm thinking she thinks she is a killer predator, dragging home her kill?
Does your cat do this?

Thanks for all the answers -- i think it's a really cute behavior.
She's six-ish -- spayed. I got her from a shelter when she was about a year old.
When i read that she might think it's a baby -- that made me sad!! I don't know if she's had babies, but maybe she did before she got to the shelter and thinks she lost them. :O(
I prefer to think she's living out her predator fantasies!

My cat does, then she brings it to me. It's a hunting instinct and they are "sharing" their kill with you.
As for it being a mothering instinct, as mentioned above, it's not because it's done by spayed and neutered cats, as well as males. It is a hunting instinct.
It's really annoying at 2 am when she is doing it all the way up the stairs to bring it to you in bed!

How old is your cat? I have a yellow/red tabby kitten and he is 12 weeks old and he runs around the house with all kinds of things in his mouth. Sometimes he does this out of play, while other times he does this out of loneliness for his own species.
Cats are wonderful animals and they can be our best friends and companions for us humans who love them so much.

my cat does the same thing, with a green stuffed snake. She gets it by the neck and does this pitiful meow and brings it to me. We also find it moved around the house after we are gone for a while...we put it away everyday in her cat toy basket and she takes it out and puts it on our bed or in my purse or in our shoes.

Yes, except my cats run around with a stuffed carrot in their mouths - the carrot has a feather top. It makes me cry with laughter. Kitties are so cute.

Your cat is simply exhibiting her hunter's instinct and bringing back the hunt to you, since you're her owner, and she loves you. My cat doesn't do this with objects, but he stalks us sometimes by hiding in a corner, then jumping out and tapping our legs as we walk pass. We sometimes make this into a game of hide and seek for him. Very adorable, and completely natural for our kitty friends :)

My cat does that with her toys when she wants to play and also when she brings home a chipmunk she's just killed. I think she's leaving a present for us or wants us to thank her for her hard work ;)

Yup!! Mine do!!! It's an instinctive hunting thing. One of my cats does it and it's just hilarious!!! He meows completely differently than he normally does. We foster kittens as well, and they watch him and totally pick up on it... Have fun with it and celebrate your kitty's... kitty-ness...
