If she's got her period...definitely she can't go to the mosque to pray, perform ramadan or fasting while her period is in progress and definitely cannot have sex with her husband.
A woman waits until after her cycle is completed, when no blood discharges from her, she can continue fulfilling her duties.

After you are sure you are clean, you take the purification shower or dip oneself in standing water (like the Jewish Mikva) that meets the minimum requirements of quality & quantity or clean running water of a river and say a cleansing prayer.

Yes, they exist because Islam is based on cleaniness and it's difficult to keep clean during a women's menstrual period. Women cannot pray nor read the arabic version of quran. During ramadhan they cannot fast.
it exists to make life easier for women during their period.

No. they are considered to be unclean during this time and men are supposed to stay away from them. and the women are supposed to stay away from men and hid themselves from mans eyes.
