because the government feels pressure to somewhat regulate what "minors" do... and although I feel you are partially right about some kids under 18 being more responsible than adults, there are definitly minors who screw it up for everyone else. By creating limitations its a way to delay your decision making until you are technically more mature.

The law has to draw the line somewhere. Do you really think a 13 year old would know how to sign an apartment lease and pay bills every month? Yes a 13 year old can be incredibly smart, but a 13 year old is not wise. Wisdom only comes with time. Besides the last time I checked, in the US, you have to be 16 to drive (14 or 15 to learn how), 18 to smoke, sign contracts, and 21 to drink and gamble. The drinking age is set to 21 to ensure that students in high school are less likely to have access to it.

Well, use my name to enter the contest for the anywhere in the world vacation sweepstakes. If I "win", you and I go dutch treat--50/50 ( I want the window seat and bed by the window, you can have the other one).

Seriously though: most all states consider 18 to be of legal age to enter such contests (and that's pretty much it, next to joining the military; you have to be 21 to be old enough for everything else).

And have you really tripped along the Yahoo Answers cataegories lately? The majority of under 18 posters are wacko, which gives merit enough that 18 is old enough to enter in contests.

Maybe it's so that kids can be kids just a little longer and
not have to deal with "adult" things. We wouldn't want little
kids driving, drinking, or going to adult movies, so somewhere along the line, an age limit had to be imposed. Most kids around
18 are ready for more adult activities. OK?

And your elders want to push things to twenty-one for alcohol and sex and eventually twenty-five. Guesstimate that Mary Mother of Jesus was thirteen maybe fourteen it is amusing to think she would be rotting in Jail as would thirty year old Joseph who would be denounced as a Child Molester - - imagine the headline, "Jesus Dad a Pedophile Creep.' Sleep well knowing that Christian Zealots are intent on ruining the World.
