Most atheists dont believe in god because they have lived in upper class suburbia or in a higher living standard. So they have everything they need to live a good life? While many christians have lived a lower middle age or poor wage lifestyle or have gone through very dramatic experiences so they only have hope that when they die they go to heaven? This is kinda the opposite when most people think atheists have had a horrible experience at one point or another. Also atheists what if the end of oil brings the end of a good lifestyle and you are just finding yourself scrapping for food? would that make u believe in a god?

Aetheists do not live a better life. Those that know God have a much better existence because of the peace and joy that comes through a relationship with our Maker.

you question makes me think of the scriptures. God gives instructions as well as warnings to the wealthy. I've lived both lifes, I grew up in a upper middle class home. I had more than most of my friends. My dad made sure that we all appreciated and was thankful for what we had. Him and my mom raised us in a Christian home. After I was grown with kids of my own and my husband walked out on us, things got pretty hard and I did lean on God more at that time. After a while I realized that although I had always believed that I worshiped more when times was hard. I promised my self I wouldn't fall into that routine again. I feel I am closer to God now tha I have ever been. I have a pretty good life now, my friends even joke that I'm spoiled by my husband. We live a life that most would love to have. I still give all the glory to my God for the things I have, because even though I have a good life it would be nothing without Him in my life. I try to use my good fourtine to help others and pray that I use my life to do Gods will. Honestly I've never met an atheists with a better life than I have. They may have more material items but there is always so much tormoril and anger in them that they seem sad. I can see your point here and how it seems that the way some live can push them one way or the other, but when our life on earth is over is when eternity begins, I had rather make sure things will be good then than worry allot about how things are now. My best friend wont go as far as to say he's an atheists but a believer he's not. I would give up every material thing I have to see him give is life to God and live a Christian life. That's what it's all about.

Sweetie, I have lost EVERYthing I owned several times. Each time I slowly build it back up. I have been homeless WITH children, on Welfare, had more than one job at a time, and I STILL don't see where your God has blessed me. I am happy when I DO own a car, but it does not distress me too terribly much when I don't. I doubt if I will join you in ranting at God because he did not create enough dinosaurs to make the oil reserves last forever, I will merely make sure I have good walking shoes, and find me a nice garden spot and survive like I always have. It's not that atheists have better lives, they just don't have a deity to blame a bad life on.

I'm sure that your statement is true of many however just as many it would not apply to either. Affluence or even a fortunate life or wealth still cannot satisfy those inner needs and desires that the created spirit of ours has. Atheist have, for one reason or another, made a decision about God not based upon their wealth or externals but because they never experienced the actual presence or call of God and they don't nor can they accept His truth unless the status quo changes in their life but that is an internal status quo not an external.

Well if Ur an atheist its Ur choice whether Ur rich or poor just as its ur choice to be Christian. It doesn't do any good to look at what materials a person has in this world to understand where their heart is. Some people rich or poor are just born rotten,at some point whether u want to believe it or not it will catch up with u.

I hate to break it to you but not all atheists are upper class. I grew up in a middle class home and I'm still in the middle class by socio-economic standards. Socio-economics has nothing to do with whether or not one believes in deities.

Even if something happened and I lost everything I still would not turn to something I know is non-existent. I would pick myself up and start re-building my life. Only I can do that.

In answer to your first question, I grew up in a middle class home. I was given a Christian upbringing. I decided for myself that religion and a belief in a supernatural being made no sense.

As for your second question, there is nothing that could make me believe in a god.

Somebody needs to check their facts before forming hypotheses.

A personal introduction, with a demonstration, might influence my belief in an all powerful god, but then some imperical testing would be in order as well.
