I have three parrots that live outdoors in a large pen. One was not acting well a couple of months ago, so I took her to the vet. The first thing the vet asked was "Does this bird have any contact with wild birds?".

I explained that small wild birds sometimes find their way into the pen with my parrots. He then said that she could be sick with anything, because wild birds carry all kinds of diseases and my bird had been exposed to wild birds.

Thankfully, whatever she had cleared up within a few days and she is fine now.

It seems that the answer to your question is yes, they can carry disease. However, my birds have been with me for more than 10 years now and have always been healthy. I don't think there are many serious diseases that are common to parrots. Parrot Fever is quite rare.

Wild caught birds are brought into the US from other countries to be used in breeding programs. They are held in quarantine for a couple of months, mostly to be sure that they don't carry an illness that would make other birds sick. That is the biggest worry. It might be hazardous to other birds, not so much to us humans.

If you keep the wild bird away from other birds for a month or two, it should be fine to introduce it to other birds in your household.

Possibly, but there's not much chance of finding any of those in the United States, so I think you're fairly safe.
