I recently retired and now have time for volunteer work. I plan to work at the public library but that is only 4 hours a day for three days a week. I still want to do more. My wife still works (at least 60 hours a week) so I'm not interfering with "our" time but still fell I should do more.

You could volunteer at a local hospital and offer comfort to people your own age that aren't as lucky and as healthy as you are.

I agree with the other posters that you could volunteer at a hospital but how about sharing some of the wealth of information you can teach youngsters, why not volunteer for a foster grandparent program or the boys and girls club or even do some class room helpers stuff.. Go where you can do the most good.
Of course you have to pass a background check, but the help you can give a youngster is invaluable

If you like animals, volunteer at an animal shelter! I do this, and it's a GREAT way to meet and spend time with the poor homeless animals. And you might even be able to persuade some people into adopting a pet! But if you have pets at home, be SURE to wash your hands VERY thoroughly before going back home to your animals...diseases spread easily and quickly. Don't forget to take a shower, too. lol ;)

Good for you! Look for some other nonprofit organizations in your area. Suggestions would be: the Red Cross; your town's school system (as a teacher's assistant, reading coach, etc.); teaching reading or ESL in literacy program; local churches (working in the office, groundskeeping, whatever your talents are). Check out your local newspaper for more opportunities.

I admire you. Go for it!

Find a good reliable nursing home and offer your services because they are always short staffed and there are plenty of elderly people that need just a friendly face to speak some kind words to them and carry on a conversation.

(Correction: we owe the BANKS in China 1000's of billions. we don't owe the chinese language human beings bupkis. If we ever finally finally end up paying the a refund, then undemanding chinese language will see little or no of it...) If this could be a shaggy dogs tale, then the shaggy dogs tale is on us, the U. S. taxpayers, who're probable the main heavily taxed technologies in historic previous. Now, i'm enthusiastic approximately charity. inspite of the easy actuality that, what the U. S. government is doing *isn't* charity. it quite is robbing from US voters at gunpoint, and giving to undesirable chinese language, or Burmese, or Africans, or Israelis, or everywhere. It parts to little greater advantageous effective than legalized theft. Charity isn't charity if we are legally compelled to do it decrease than threat of prosecution. Charity implies we've a decision indoors the undertaking. Worse, like many tax funded projects, disaster relief is extremely money down the hollow, we the human beings do now not even get to paintings out a marginal return on our coerced investment. the only purpose such expenses serve indoors the long-term, is to make our leaders look stable. organic and organic mess united statesare particularly extremely human failures; they are not a lot extra approximately by using skill of nature as by using skill of undesirable making plans, loss of forethought, and unwillingness to learn from the previous. Worse although, we at the instant are not *in my view* paying for all this meant "charity." rather, it quite is spent in deficit, so it quite is our youthful babies and grandchildren who foot the bill, the two in the present day by using using nationwide debt, and not in the present day by using using inflation. additionally, because of the reality optimal persons of the nationwide debt is now owed remote places we are in actuality borrowing chinese language money to pay the chinese language, together as US voters pay the interest. this could be a mad, mad international we live in.... EDIT: sorry for hijacking the thread... you're precise, it would be greater advantageous effective if we extremely payed the money we owe them, yet like I reported, undesirable chinese language does now not see hardly any of it....
