never give your cat pepto bismal it contains silicates which are also found in aspirins, both are very toxic to cats.
It is not common for your cat to be loosing weight that is noticeable to you.
Your cat must have been sick for a while to be in this condition, I strongly suggest you make an appointment with your vet, the problem could be as simple as intestinal worms or paracites or as serious as cancer or other fatal illnesses.
Bottom line, let the pros handle kitties problems, Don't think anyone here on yahoo answers can help you.

Never give a cat otc medicine for humans! Talk to your vet. If the cat is old there could be some underlying health issue that is easily, or not so easily, treated.

I will chime in to make the chorus here. You must not give your cat human over the counter stuff!
It sounds as if your cat is in serious need of a vet's attention.

Take your pet to the vet. I can't understand why so many people are willing to come here for advice, rather than do the right thing.

NO! Look up someonline pet sights for advice. Or wait for an animal person to tell you what to do. Do not give people medicine to animals.
