According to Wikipedia, a schism is grounds for an automatic excommunication from the Roman Catholic Church. So my question is, in 1054 (the East-West Schism), were those who became Eastern Orthdox excommunicated?

Yes they were, but relations have improved since then. The R.C. Church recognizes the Eastern Orthodox as having valid Holy Orders, and by implication all their sacraments are valid. Incidentally, when Martin Luther and Germany started having serious problems with Rome, Luther tried to hook up with the East so as to maintain continuity of succession, but travel and communication were too difficult in those days.

You can't just post anything on Wikipedia... you can submit anything, but it is reviewed and removed rather quickly if it's not legitimate.

That said, I'm sure it has mistakes and inaccuracies. However, Eastern Orthodox denominations are not considered Catholics.
