A progressive dinner is when a group of people go from one place to another, usually someone's home, for a 3 to 4 course meal, with each palce serving a different part of the meal. For example, appetizers at Jane's and John's, salad at Sue's, main course somewhere else, and dessert somewhere else. You can also go to different restaraunts for this.
