If you get highlights, have them done professionally and make sure they are blended with your normal haircolor and not too prominent. I do not think that they make you look older OR younger, to be honest, though. But, if they are done incorrectly or too prominent then you will look a little.... (what's the best way to put this).... cheap and strange. If they are done professionally, though, and well blended, they might be a nice, refreshing change from your "drab" haircolor.
Do not try to do them yourself! If you have no experience in doing this, there is a good chance that it will turn out in disaster. Many, many women I know have had to color their hair completely blonde as the result of a failed attempt to put highlights in their own hair, LOL! Trust me, it sounds much easier than it really is.

It's very hard for someone on this forum to say if you will look better with blonde highlights... although many people tend to look better with them, there are some people that look very unflattering with them. Your best bet is to go to a good salon and find a color specialist - they'll be able to tell from your current hair color and skin tone what the best option for you would be. They'll also be able to place the highlight (and the correct shade of highlight) in the most flattering places.

NO! you are never too old for highlights! I can't really tell you whether or not blonde highlights would look good on you or not- i would have to see for myself, but i do know that if you go into any hair salon (hair cuttery is a good place) Than they will help you decide what to do and give you some good ideas if you just ask. They work in the business, they know what looks good- and on who. My hair is naturally a boring mousy brown also, but i am always doing new things with it, and i love it.

I'm 36 and I still color my hair and have highlights added. I think it can make you look younger as long as the highlights aren't to dramatic, they should be more blended in at our age.

Unless he works for Toni & Guy or is the fashion editor for Cosmo, who cares? Even then, do what YOU like. Grow it, shave it bald...color it ALL BLONDE!!! PUT RED CHUNKS IN IT!! Haha I would dye it hot pink if someone said something like that to me...oh yeah, I've already done that. :P
