It's all what I do. I like to do those things. The cursin' I do when I think I need to for the most part. I'm a sinner, saved by grace. Sometimes I'll curse just to scare off the Christian fundamentalists that get on my nerves.
Smoking, I ready to do one outside (no smoking inside). Secular music is what I prefer. I'm not a Christian because of my music. And listening to it doesn't make me any cleaner.
So I get to listen to the music that I like. Rush, Alice in Chains, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Celtic music, classical music, Peter Gabriel, Reinassance music, etc.

Not all secular music is bad.. I don't think... For me the best way to sellect what kind of music I listen to is the message of it. Some are funny, some romantic, I don't see anything wrong with it...
Smoking is stupid, and like all esle it's a sin against your body... it's a bad habbit, an addiction, adn while the Bible doesn't condemn smoking directly, it does say that "all things are allowed, but nothing should have dominnion over you" ... so I choose not to smoke...
But then overeating is just as bad of a sin as smoking in my book. Or drinking alcohol.
Now... cursing, I totally think it's a projection of an untamed heart. A person who curses is not only rude but for a Christian it actually cancells a blessing.. I am serious.. Jonh Hagee has a whole book about that...
I don't believe you can curse and not use God's name in vain... since you are already a CHristian you do it, indirectly...
And even if you don't for the moment... you will soon enough, becasue curses bring along others, and soon enough you will curse God...
But... Peter the Apostle of Jesus did that too, and repented, my point is, anyone can be forgiven of this too.

Music,I like all kinds.I use to smoke but when I got sick and couldn`t take two steps and get a breath of air I decided that I could live with out smoking.Thats been about 6 years ago.Cursing,I`ve been known to curse, though never use the Lords name, won`t ever do that. But cursing isn`t really very adult,we should find a better way to express ourselves when we`re angry.I`m guilty.

I am a christian. Well, i've kind of fallen away... at this point in my life I don't know what I'm doing.
Secular music rocks!! Way better than most contemporary christian... haha, my mom listens to that stuff.
Cursing---I say certain words if I'm really upset, but that's not very often and never around my mom.
I never can get a hold of ciggarettes so I can't smoke.
I'm not saying any of the things I do are parallel to God's purpose in my life, but I just don't know what that purpose is.

Secular music, meaning any music that is not of the religious genre, does not bother me. Beethoven and the theme music for Spongebob are both examples of secular music, so perhaps you should narrow your criteria a bit.
Cursing doesn't bother me, either, though I try to watch my mouth around kids.
Being around smoking... I quit two months ago and don't want to be around it. It stinks and it kills. But it's your body.. so long as it doesn't affect me, go right ahead.
Not a Christian... and that last part of your main Q bothers me more than any of the things you actually asked about in the details.

Before I tell you my view, I going to quote to versus from the Bible that are the basis for my beliefs. The first is from I Thesolonians 5:22. "Abstain from all appearance of evil."
The second comes from the second part of Romans 14:13. "Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother's way."
While I do not recall anything in the Bible in regards to secular music many people do have a problem with this. Secular music can come in many forms, such as classical (like Bach and Beethoven) to rock or rap. I think you need to use your mind about the type of music you listen to. Especially since many songs are based on immorality. While it may not necessarily affect your relationship with God (I really disagree with this), someone may be watching you and wanting to emulate you. The music you listen to, however, may be a stumbling block to them in coming to know the Lord.
Smoking falls under the same pattern. I do not recall anything that forbids it, but others may find it offensive, and thereby be affected when you smoke. Personally, I just don't like smoking, (makes me sick to be around others who do) an so do not.
As for cursing, I view it as a disrespect to someone else. When you ask yourself, why are you cursing, it's usually because your mad at that person, or not watching your tounge. Why would you want others to feel bad about themselves, or want others to see you as someone who can not control their language. Instead, one of the greatest witness a Christian can have is not cursing. Working in retail, I could almost guarentee by 90% which customers were Christian. That was becuase of their speech. Those who cursed usually were not. Those who did, usually were. As my pastor preached on today, it's all about self-control. I say this knowing that it is very hard not to curse. There are so many times when I just want to, but I have to learned not to. And if you are one of the ones who does not curse, believe me, people will sit up and notice when you accidently curse. So, it's one of those issues that you constantly have to be on guard for.
I hope this helps you.

I listen to a lot of secular music, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I think there is quite a bit of secular music that is about God, it's kind of like the person singing it really doesn't know it is all. I do smoke, I have smoked since I was seventeen, and it's just something that God hasn't dealt with me about yet, I think there are more important things to worry about. And yes I swear sometimes, and that is something I'm working on trying not to do. God knows I'm not perfect, and in time He will address these things with me.

Well, Paul wrote that everything is permitted, but not everything is wise. Just because smoking, cursing, secular music, etc. is not actually a sin doesn't mean it's good for you or for others to indulge in it. I happen to think those things are better left alone, personally, but it's not my place to tell other Christians what conclusion they should reach on the same topics.

Secular music straight up has got a funky beat. It's cool, but you have to watch the lyrics. If they cast God in a negative light, then it's not cool. Remember, music is the Lord's. Use it to glorify Him. Smoking is a nasty habit. It's not a sin, but ask yourself how does smoking glorify God? Cursing don't glorify God at all. Our words as Christians should be thankful and not negative. For how can we show disgust through cursing when God has given us eternal life and saved us from eternal hell. Honor God with your words. Words are powerful and who can tame the tongue? Words can build or destroy. Use them to build. You know that sticks and stones can break your bones, but names can sometimes hurt a lot more for they can remain for a lifetime.

well, smoking is bad for your health and cursing just makes you look vulgar.
As far as secular music......I love music, all kinds except rap. As a Christian you know the battlefield is in the mind. If certain secular music leads you to sin, well, you know what to do....I think God wants us to experience being human and recognize as we grow how we become separated from him by sin...but you don't really understand all that until you've experienced it. I'm not advocating for sin. I just think that we are all sinners and that's why the Lord sent His Son. I think we are all human and we are here to experience the human condition as well as to choose the Lord and knowingly walk away from sin.
