It depends on the kind of worms--I know this is gross, but if they kind of look like grains of rice, they are tapeworms and they come from fleas. You cannot get rid of these with storebought meds, you will have to get something from your veterinarian. And you really should take care of it asap. Tapeworms can make a dog very sick and anemic.

What you are describing is tape worms and they get these from swallowing fleas. So, the first thing you need to do is get rid of the fleas. Then you need to treat your dogs for the worms. OTC worming meds that you buy from Walmart or a pet store typically do not work very well. I would suggest taking in a sample of your dogs fecal matter and have the vet test it. Just to make sure that is the only kind of worms that he/she has. They will then give you the appropriate meds and dosage for your pet.
Tapeworms are not passed from one animal to another, but since they are living in the same environment.....yes, it is possible that your other pets will get them from swallowing fleas themselves.
Once you have the problem with the fleas and worms cleared up I would suggest you put your pets on Sentinel. If you live anywhere where there are mosquito's, they should be on this anyway to prevent heart worms, which can be fatal. It is a pill that you give your pets once a month. It prevents all intestinal worms, heart worms, fleas, ticks, and deters mosquito's from biting them.

There are several types...type in your search canine worms
Fleas give tape worms...tasty paste is the best and easiest answer to this.
Most other worms are picked up from the ground...eggs hatch
and grow either before or your pet picks these up. Some of the
eggs or worms need a nother dose...read the bottle or tube the eggs sometime hatch slowly or the dog picks up more from the grounds..especially at dog parks!
Worms can make a dog look chubby when she/he is really
empty but the worm(s) are blotting here stomach.
If you see them please dont put it off..like anything catching them in time is the best answer. All pet stores retail or online carry excellant inexpensive cures. Early worm is for other worms.
Even Hartz at the grocery store in town will work in time.
If your dog doesnt feel like eating...make sure she/he has plenty of water.
Regular white rice (not minute rice) the cheap or bagged rice is best. Just boil rice as directed and let a sick or dehydrated pet
have the liquid....(not the rice it wont hurt them if they want it but
the rice water hydrates them and helps them thru...pour in there mouth a little at a time if they are very sick.

You need to get some de-wormer from your vet. Strongit T is the best. Then you may need to get something to put on your yard. Dogs usually get worms from the grass and dirt in your yard.
You can call or go by your local vet's clinic and just describe to them what you did here and they can give you something.
Good Luck

Yes they can be passed through the dogs poop. So make sure you are picking it up and throwing it away. Make sure that you are getting your worm medicinre from the vet and they have a pill that the dog takes once a month to keep them away. The stuff from the store is not as strong.

You can call your local vet for better instructions on the pets diet. If you feed the dog canned food it can cause worms. Being outside.. a number of things can cause worms. Pets need to see the vet for shots and stronger medicines for worms. Over the counter stuff is ok for short term but I suggest the vet.

worms are passed through animal feces. you can guess the rest. To get rid of them go to the pet store and ask for a dewormer, or call your vet. Make sure to note the characteristics of the worms your dog has.

It depends on what you are using. If it is tapeworm you are treating for, the dog can get them again and again!! They get them from FLEAS!! So treat for fleas as well. If that is what you are treating for, I hope you are using Tradewinds or getting something from the vet, otherwise it won't work!!!!!!!
For roundworms, that look like spaghetti, a liquid like Nemex is the way to go.
