I understand what you feel, and I'm sorry that you cat has gone missing. We had a cat at work and someone left a door open. She got out and never returned. I was devastated.
Sympathy aside, though, what do you expect when it is an "indoor and outdoor" cat? There are predators, cars, traps, poison - all sorts of bad things cats can get into. Even if she isn't killed, she can be exposed to many diseases. Strictly indoor cats often live to be fifteen, even twenty years old. Outdoor cats are lucky to live half that long. Even if the cat isn't injured, do you know what kind of problem we have in this country with feral cats? It frustrates me to no end when I hear people say they let their cats outside. A responsible pet owner does not expose their pets to disease and potential death. "She likes it" is no excuse.
I know this is harsh, and I'm sorry, especially now when your cat is missing. I really do understand what it is like to grieve for a missing pet. I just want people who read this to think twice about letting their cats outside.

Well, there is the possibility that your cat is just fine and maybe somewhere that she cannot get out of at the moment...mabye someone "adopted" her, or maybe she is locked up in someones garage. Keep checking with the shelter...and actually go there and ask to look at all the cats there, sometimes just giving them her description is NOT enough, post signs in your neighborhood, and talk to neighbors you know in person. Try checking with kids in the neighborhood and they may be outdoors a lot and may have seen your cat. My cat (indoor) slipped out of our apt. right after we had moved in, and apparently wandered off and being in a totally unfamiliar area could not find his way home again. I plastered the neighborhood with posters, went out walking and driving the neigborhood, and finally after 2 weeks had another pet owner call me as my cat was in her yard eating her dogs food! Good luck..don't give up! I hope you find her soon.

I hope she is wearing a collar and tags (even though collars on outdoor cat should be the breakaway or slip-off type in case they get caught on a fence/limb/etc.). And you microchipped her too, right? Some person probably took her in thinking she is lost and will catch up with your flyers and LOST CAT ad in the classified papers. Your town might have other shelters that keep lost-and-found listings. Post her picture at the Petsmart/Petco, local vet clinics, etc. Animals get misplaced further away than you know. There are also lost pet listings on-line too. Just be proactive while you wait. There is nothing more you can do. And Amelia, too harsh. Maybe animal ER is not your thing. you need healthier ways to vent than taking it out behind a computer screen on total strangers.

I do know how you feel. Fortunately when my cat went missing she returned within twenty-four hours. I was up all night crying for her and scoured the woods calling and looking for her.
I hope your kitty comes home safe and sound. I have talked to many people at shelters who have had this experience. They were determined that a new cat would be indoors.
And cats love the freedom to come and go as they please. It's always a hard choice to make.

sometimes cats get shut up in garages or people think they are homeless and take them.try putting posters up around your neighborhood and the stores in your area.i had a out/indoor cat that was gone for 2 wks.he came home with a different collar, also when you get him back go to your vet and have him micro chipped.at the very least have some info/telephone #,address etc.on his collar good luck i Hope he comes home soon.i understand how much you are hurting

I can relate to you sweetie.. She is an older feline and sometimes when they know they are about to pass on they'll leave so you won't have to see them... I am sorry, I hope she returns to your loving arms. try getting a box of kitty food and shaking it loudly outside, if she hears you she may come running back.. or even try opening a can outdoors.. that HUMMMM of a can opener seems to always attract my kitties.
