Are they the same?

A plait is like what some people call a pigtail. It hangs loose from the scalp. A braid is braided to the scalp and is immobile. It does not hang loose from the hair except the free ends. Like a french braid. Plats a child can wear barretts on the end...........

No they are not the same. You put the braid on the plate. Like if you were to make a sandwich, you would get two pieces of braid, and then make a sandwich, and eat the sandwich on the plait so you don't get crumbs on the floor.
