I would try to get a copy of the Bishop Fulton Sheen "Life is Worth Living" book and possible GK Chesterton, "The Apostle of Common Sense" by Dale Alquist. Great down to earth books that encompass all of the secular issues in light of Christianity.

When I used to teach high school, I never hesitated to go right ahead and talk about God with conviction. It was a public school, but it might have made a difference that it was a small town in the South, where everyone in town and the faculty and school administration thoroughly approved of that approach.

Hopefully the theories of counseling you studied to become certified helped you to understand that your personal beliefs should not play a major role in helping others to cope with individual issues.
