OCD is an anxiety related personality disorder in which a person does ritualistic behavior (entering a room with a certain foot, checking 2 or more times to ensure that the door is locked, hand washing for an hour.) in order to comfort or calm themselves. Symptoms are obsessions, the fear itself (germs, death) and compulsions which are the rituals to counteract the fears. Common rituals are touching, counting, washing, stepping with certain feet, etc.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a potentially disabling anxiety disorder. A person who has OCD has intrusive and unwanted thoughts and repeatedly performs tasks to get rid of the thoughts.
OCD is a chronic or long-term illness, and the symptoms typically increase and decrease over time. Treatment can lessen the severity, but some symptoms may linger after you begin treatment. Anxiety is the most common symptom of OCD.
Obsessions, which are recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas, and impulses that interrupt normal thinking and cause anxiety or fear.
Compulsions, which are behaviors or rituals that are repeated intentionally to try to control the obsessions.
Treatment for OCD includes counseling and medications. Antidepressant medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), such as fluoxetine (for example, Prozac), are most commonly used.

Compulsion: An overwhelming urge to perform an irrational act or ritual. I am not sure what other symptoms would be. But it can treated with medication. Abilify has been proven to work in cases of OCD and there are stabilizers such as strattera that also work .You would need to get them in to a psychological evuation and go from there.

Repeating the same rituals, checking things thoughts that cannot be controlled...when it starts restricting the persons life to where they cannot function properly, and start affecting the family, it is time to kindly let the person know, and there are wonderful drugs to help them not have to suffer with this affliction..also, they need to know that it is a chemical imbalance, more than a 'mental illness' that can be controlled with a drug like Luvox, for instance...but when you tell the person, do it lovingly, and with understanding. because these people feel really trapped..as I told someone before,...Howard stern claimed to have OCD, but also claimed to cure it himself,..I guess Google could help the person..sit down with them and research it...they will feel good that you are not putting them down for it God bless

Some of the most common symptoms are obsessive repeated washing of hands, and redoing things. Such as returning home twice because you're worried you didn't lock the door. There are other things like constantly straightening objects that are not perfectly aligned.
You'd have to see the help of a professional...
