Many "Christians" claim to worship Jesus, a man who died a brutal death on a cross, to fufill the will God had for him, but don't expect that they should have to give up anything for God or suffer any harm? And the word "Christian" suggests like Christ, so why wouldn't they expect to be like Christ in the ways he is known for, suffering for God's will?

Ok, a lot of you don't agree. Please then give me a scriputure that says that Christians should not expect to suffer. And those who do agree that Christians have to suffer, why don't a lot of people (not all, but a lot) not take this seriously in their spiritual walks with God?

People who don't agree please read:
Luke 9:23-26
Luke 14:25-33
1 Corinthians 9:19-27
Romans 5:1-11
Romans 6 (entire chapter)

I am honestly interested in your views about these scriputres. I am not trying to agrue, I am curious what you think.

Christ was the son of God and the son of man. Many Christians have and will also suffer brutal deaths. The difference is that mortal men will suffer an eternal death (separation from God) if they die and do not believe that Christ was the Son of God, sent here to Save us through his mortal death as a sinless man. Christ offers eternal life with his Father in Heaven for believing and following His word as the great redeemer of our sinful lives.

actually the word Christian's refers to those that follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Christianity, is the Christian religion, including the Catholic,
Protestant and Eastern Orthodox churches.
Jesus Christ was in fact a Jewish Minor Prophet, not a Christian, who preached honor and love one and another, who died for his goodness and following, by others, vicious politics.
Incidentally, the Old Testament was written before Jesus and the New Testament was written approximately 80 years after his death.
There are no words known to be written by Jesus so who than is it that purports to know that Jesus died for God's will, or that it's Jesus's will that we suffer for God, as you put it?

My wife and I do expect and have suffered - and would do it all over again...Christ is First in our lives and has blessed us in ways we can just only be in Awe. People who feel that they don't have to suffer to serve HIM truly do not know the Christ who died for them that brutal death. All because He Loves Us...so awesome. Suffer does not only mean physical, but have you ever been passed over at a job you knew you qualified for only for it to be given to someone who "went along with the gang"? We have and know that All Things Work together for those who Serve the Lord -- we are retired, make an eighth of what we both made while working -- but live a much fuller, rich and peaceful life --- God takes care of His own... May you have a Blessed week, Joe and Arlene

We have and will continue to suffer persecution by people who ask questions like this on a daily basis. Don't generalize! You don't know anything about what a Christian experience in their daily lives. To suggest that all Christians think this way is incompetent on ur part.

Some Christians believe God suppose to die for our sins and take care of evil but God allows Satan to try and test us on a daily basis to make us stronger. No believer wants to be tested. Some Christians faith and spiritual walk is weak because they stop at confessing him as Lord and not search for more. We are in a spiritual warfare daily and we as believers must strengthen ourselves thru the washing of the word of God. We must pray
not only for ourselves but for others.

Shalom

When you start to serve God, it's like joining the armed forces, they only tell u about all the good things like serving your country and having opportunities to see the world! Whew! Free Travel!
But join up and u learn pretty fast that it's not so easy afterall. I guess it's the same with Christians, even Jesus' disciples took to their heels when they saw trouble coming but they were sorry later and were forgiven by Jesus. We do have to suffer, it's a living sacrifice!

Good Question. The Bible says we must take up our Cross, in order to follow Jesus. We must Crucify our Flesh, to walk in the Spirit. In this life we will have many trials and tribulations. But all the sufferings of this world will be as nothing when we get to Heaven and see our reward that Our Father has prepared for The Faithful Few!

Depends on how you define suffer. If you mean die, many Christians in other countries do that--we've just been extremely fortunate that is not something we've had to face here yet. (although Columbine did allow some Christians to show their love for God) If you mean suffer like giving up things like pre-marital sex, adultery, drinking, partying...etc....some of us do suffer. I'd love to do that, but can't because I know it's morally wrong and more importantly, against my Christian beliefs. No one has ever yet held a gun to my head, but my life is different because Jesus Christ lives in me. And the rewards for that far outweigh the "suffering" it requires.

It is quite plausible that many of us don't understand what suffering Christ endured, I for one remain mystified. But I believe that is part of god's intentions with sin. We humans have the choice to do good for others and ourselves or not, but it is this free-will that we must suffer through. Doing what is considered right often requires time and effort, much of which isn't readily available without making a sacrifice.

Where does it say in the bible that one must suffer ANYTHING?
God supposedly sent his son Jesus to wash away our sins, not to suffer during life to serve him.
What in the bible makes you think that you have to suffer ANYTHING!? That statement in itself makes no sense, for the Father to give you life and understanding only to make you suffer in his service. Most suffering in this world is brought on by mans choice, not by Gods doing. God doesnt control your every breath and heartbeat. Thats why we are born with brains. We think, pose questions, hypothesise, draw conclusions and make decisions as we are intended to do.
By the way, the word Christian by my definition is one that follows the teachings of Christ and God. Not one who is trying to be a good Christian and become a martyr and immitate Jesus. To do so in itself would be sacrilige

Because humans are selfish. Christian or not. when it comes down to it....we're all exactly the same ... We werent' given the testimony of god to lift ourselves up and make ourselves some holy image...we were given it to share it so those who are suffering don't have to.

But we think it makes us special,. that the world and everyone else owes us something. Suffering isn't comfortable. and nobody likes being uncomfortable.. so that's why we complain.

Sometimes it's fear too.We can get scared of suffering.

It's hard to see god suffering for us when we have a house full of air conditioning a bed to sleep in, food to eat... and a stubbed toe.
