Definately the Toyota Corolla. Toyota's quality is if not the best, pretty damn close to it. Besides, Saturn is owned and made by General Motors, which has extraordinarily lower quality ratings than that of Toyota. Let alone the fuel economy is better in a corolla, the resale value is EXTREMELY higher in a Corolla, the dependabiltity is higher.

Here's the specs:
city/highway mpg [Trans: Auto: Manual:]
TOYOTA COROLLA: 30/38 32/41
SATURN ION SEDAN: 24/32 26/35

PS, if it makes you feel any better, the Chevy Cobalt and the Pontiac Pursuit are both restyled Saturn Ions basically.

Toyota Corolla is a better choice than the Saturn Ion but I would rather get a Mazda 3 or a Honda Civic over the Toyota Corolla.

If you can actually buy the Corolla for $15k, then DO IT. However, I have a feeling that you'll have to shell out about a grand or 2 more. However, it's still worth it!!! (and if you can't afford to jump a little, stay in the Toyota family with: Yaris, Scion xA or scion xB)

The biggest expense of running a car is DEPRECIATION. The Saturn will be worth 7k in a year, while the Corolla will be worth 12k. In 2 years, the Saturn will be worth 5k, while the Corolla will be worth 10k. In 3 years, the Saturn MAY be worth 3k, but the Corolla will be worth 9k. The Corolla will run forever. Literally. I'm not kidding. It really and truely will RUN FOREVER. There are more Corollas on the road today than ANY other vehicle. And over half of them are over 10 years old!!!

The recalls for Toyota have all been harmless. One of them was for clips in the carpet that might break, which might force the carpet under the pedels, which might cause issues.

Also of note, is that these are ALL factory inititated recalls, NOT government mandated. And it is also important to note that Chrysler, Ford, GM are still WAY ahead of the pack on recalls and accidently killing people with their faulty designs.

Get the Toyota, always get the Toyota or Honda unless your leasing it. I value quality, performance, a good resale value, good fuel economy and longevity all of which you can find in a Honda Civic, because you're not considering the Civic, the Corolla is good choice too. If you're buying a car within that price range I assume one doesn't have the funds to pay for the maintenance that is inherent with a domestic or afford to lose a lot of resale value.

Actually, look toward a Scion Tc they are arund 12-15,000, great warranty, be careful, The corolla may me deleted in the next 2 years....

A saturn is running engines made by Honda, so your driving a honda in a saturn body, worth it yes and no- the thought of a plastic body being hit by a ford f150-- hmmm

Ohh also check into the Chevy Cobalt- great warranty and very driveable car!!!

Well if I were in that market, you should wait for the replacement to come out for the Saturn. They are replacing the Ion with a newer and European based platform.

Toyota isnt all its cracked up to be anyways, especially with the recalls they have had in the past year. Yikes, makes you wonder !!!

Also, for that money I would actually consider a Pontiac G6, I was very impressed and it gave me great gas mileage in the 4 cylinder version. Besides, its a great little car that gave me alot of comfort on a very long road trip !
