It depends on the locale in which you live. I would contact the county seat and ask them. But, in most cases, you don't need to have a degree, just some form of certification, via short-term schooling and possible tests. However, it also depends on what type of officer you are looking to me. To be a bailiff, many states require that you be a licensed peace/police officer as you are armed, and have many of the same responsibilities. I would visit state and county web sites, call their offices and ask, and look into books such as the one linked below (which you can view at most public libraries as well).
