The other answers are all correct but with one thing was overlooked. You have an 8 year old, 2 other reasons could be the cause 1) Nose picking very common at that age, and the number 1 reason most people in general get a nose bleed 2) Dry membranes from the weather, colds, allergies etc, you can start using saline spray or gel if this is the case.....In any event you should let a doctor see the child to make sure its nothing serious (which I am sure it isn't)

Good Luck :-)

Yes if it happens a lot. Nose bleeding is caused also by trauma on the nose and thin blood vessels (it happens also with change in temperature of the body most likely too much heat). Low platelet may be causaing also this one (this is the clotting factor of the body.)But you have to check other signs and symptoms that are unusual coz some disease manifests this. Better see her pedia. Hope this helps. God bless!

A lot of the time, the vessels in the nose will get thin, and burst causing lots of nose bleeds. There is a surgery where they can go in and close off these vessels and stop the bleeding. You need to talk to your Dr and find out what you can do. It could be caused from high altitude, or very dry conditions causing this, or it could be something serious...

When my brother was young he had frequent nosebleeds too. It was because the capillaries in his nostrils were close to the membrane. So if he picked it, it would bleed, if the air was too dry it would bleed, or even just a gentle bump to the nose would start it gushing. As he got older, they became less frequent, and now he has one very rarely.

high blood pressure is a possibility - go to your doc anyway, if you keep getting them, there may be something wrong.
