Being a native of Georgia, I would love to be able to say that we still hold that title. Our motto is after all, The Peach State.
Unfortunately, in the USA, we now rank 3rd...
California and then South Carolina beat us out for the title.

But we still rank 1st with the two-legged variety of peaches!!!
Best in the country by far!

Today Georgia grows over 40 varieties of peach commercially. Although Georgia is called the Peach State it actually ranks third in production behind California and South Carolina. But one site I went to said the Pennslyvania is number one and New Jersey was second

Georgia is known as the “Peach State” because of the growers' reputation for producing the highest quality fruit. The peach became the official state fruit in 1995.

Georgia-the Peach State but some famous market produce side, their peach distribution came from Columbia (saw it in their television advertisement where they get their fruits from).
