I took my girl yorkie for a walk today and she picked up a piece of dead animal carcus when I wasn't looking. She gave me a really hard time getting it out of her mouth- she ran with it. Is that normal? I am disgusted!!!

Yah, my Daschund loves dead stuff. He loves them so much, he rolls around on the spot where they were lying, after I have removed it. Stinky! I guess to them, it's just meat..what do they know where it came from.

Yorkies were originally bred to clear the castles in England of mice and other rodents. Yes it is normal, it is instinctive of most terriers. My Miniature Pinscher is so fast, mice don't have a chance. I live in the country and I don't like him to kill things but it is his nature. Not just because they are small dogs, that is just dumb.

Well, normal...that depends...is she feral? Odds are she isn't. Basically the problem is that you are not the pack leader, so she is allowed to do what she wants...ie: running away from you.

You should teach her that YOU are the pack Alpha...when walking, there is no sniffing around, no picking up dead (and diseased) things, and running away. She has you under her control.

Usually dogs kill birds and drop them on your step as an extreme sign of loyalty to you. Maybe your dog couldn't catch a live animal so he made the carcass his present to you!

I think so. It is gross, but dogs like to do stuff like that. My 2 dogs like to roll in the presents wild turkeys leave for us.
Good Luck
