I have read every answer, Sadly none of that works for me.. Spray water and calling it monster spray? You are only feeding the imagination, not helping. I already leave the Closet light on two nightlights in the room while the hallway has a nightlight. Have a strand of lights kinda like Xmas in the room too. None of that works still, she gets up at night crying because she is scared. I even pray with her before bedtime and do the routine check for monsters.. I have no trick to tell you.. I am waiting for this to be a phase.. It has been over a year and counting, very tired nights... I guess All I can say is hang in there... You are not alone..

Give the child a bright nightlight. Not the kind that has a cover on it, with a character. Those don't give much light. You can pick up a pack of nightlights for under $5 at kmart or walmart. Just get the clear nightlights, with white covers.

Have one on the other side of the bedroom, not next to the bed. Put another in the hallway, and one more in the bathroom. This will give a clear path if the child needs to get up in the night.

A small flashlight also works well. I usually get my son those ones that come free with battery packages. They're not expensive at all, we go through a lot of batteries anyways, and the flashlights are small enough not to light up the whole room. If they're not available, most of these small flashlights can also be purchased by the check out lanes of most stores (walmart, target, kmart, etc).

I also remind my children - everything is dark when you're eyes are closed. They'll close their eyes, and go "oh yeah." And then grab a flashlight.

My brother is afraid of the dark so I know how they behave and how they go about things. =] Depends on the age but for my brother I always try to help him do something especially if he's scared. Certain things I do and certain things I don't do. Like if he wants to go play in the other room which is 2 feet away and he asks if I can go with him because he's scared then I say you need to not be afraid I'm here God is with you and I tell him to laeve the door open so I can hear him and everything like that. You don't always have to give in but go with them if it is within reason. You will know when it is within reason also. The more you tell him it will be ok the more peace he will have inside even if it is not noticeable at the time. They'll grow out of it eventually.

Monsters: Put a carrot into a bag and set it in the dark room for a minute. Tell the child that monsters love carrots and that it'll shrink down to fit into the bag so it can eat the carrot. Then quickly snatch the bag up and put it in the trach can outside so the child thinks that the "Monster" is gone.

Dark: Put a nightlight in and put a flashlight next to the child's bed.

I would get them a night light , or some kind of light to make it a bit lighter in their room. My child is afraid to be left up stairs by her self , in the bed I need to stay with her.

Just put in a night light for now. If the problem persists, leave the closet light on and every so often close the door just ever so slightly until they dont notice...

no problem; but a night light in her room and tell her you are just sitting in the living room. Or if you walking outside with her, just tell her ; there is nothing to be scared about, there are street lights every were and you are with her. Just comfort her and always tell her you are near by or Dad is near by or Grandma she will be never alone.

Give them a nightlight and maybe a flashlight. They make flashlights that will turn out after a certain amout of time, that way they don't burn out the batteries.

dark be counted, with the aid of fact the end results of dark be counted are observable and its postulated existence is falsifiable. edit: Dharmah - that's no longer what dark be counted is. i'm no physicist, yet even i will see your post gets a number of considerable factors incorrect.
