Why not try approaching girls that u don't fancy first, e.g. just to ask for time, or just to talk. Then you will get used to approaching the opposite sex. Eventually you will get enough confidence to approach the girls that you do fancy.

Have you thought about internet dating? My fiancé is shy too. We met on the internet, which gave us a chance to get to know each other a bit before we actually met in person. It meant that when we did meet, I already knew that he was really shy and wasn't put off by his nervousness as I also knew that he appeared to be a really lovely person - but the nerves only lasted a few minutes anyway until we got chatting and realised how well we got on!
Give it a go, you've nothing to lose!

This may sound a bit wierd, but follow her (secretly ofcourse), find out her interests, try and find some way to start a conversation and become friends, eventualy she might like you more than the average friend.
For all you know she already likes you.

Well i am very shy when it comes to boys too. Just believe in yourself and take a deep breath and walk up to the girl. Or you can write her a note and tell how you really feel about her.

now a days love girls do the asking as well as guys, so unless its a girl you dont like you will have to get some confidence, to ask the ones you DO like,

How old are you?....you're going to have to get over your fears and learn to just talk to girls. Its not that hard and believe it or not, we won't bite your head off if you just say hi to us.

that's really tough. but you know what? i bet if you see a girl that you really want and you know she'd be a great girl, you'll work up the guts to talk to her.
