I have been under severe stress at work lately and I cannot seem to let it go. I have tried several medications and counseling but nothing seems to work...what do I do?

The first thing you need to do is reassess your work-personal life balance. Work is just that...work. Even if you have the MOST important job in the world, you can only do so much and at the end no one is going to care or thank you (There are exceptions, but don't count on it). If the job is taking such a toll on you that it follows you where ever you go, you may want to look for other employment. Even if the money is great, you won't enjoy it. As long as you have enough to take care of your family, that's all you need. If your family cannot enjoy you because you are always at work (Even if mentally), they won't enjoy your money either.

On a different topic, learn to take control of your work environment. Don't take on more than you should. Again, no one will appreciate it. All the hours you spend thinking about work are just being wasted in making someone else look good. No amount of stress is worth that.

Finally, take a few moments a day to laugh. That's the best medicine for stress. Feel free to go to www.callcentercomics.com, and get a quick chuckle. Even if you don't work in a call center it should put a smile on your face.

I hope things get better for you soon.

First, you need to relax. Your mind is working on too many things at one time. Take a deep breath. Make a schedule and set daily goals. This way your working on one things at a time and completing it before you move to another...scheduling is important! Aim toward meeting the expectations but don't try to achieve perfection! That will wear you out. Try to avoid interruption and if you can delegate work to others...ask for help. Don't let co-worker's problems become your own. Let them deal with it. Office politics can get the best of you!!! Learn how to say 'NO' when you feel overwhelmed. It's better to do less right than to do a lot wrong.
