NO......... The dogs fur protects them from contracting the poison ivy. They can lay in it and it will not effect them, but if u were to walk over and pet the dog after he had been exposed to it u can get it from his fur.

Only on exposed areas of their bodies...such as the belly or nose...the rest is protected by their coats.....a word to the wise, whatever they've picked up on their fur can be transferred to your family so if you suspect they've been romping with poison oak or ivy, you may want to bathe them asap.

The urushiol oil does not bind to the skin on dogs like it does people. If they have the oil on their fur they can give it to you. I heard that horses can get it - but I'm not 100% sure that is true.

I'm not so sure about getting it, but their fur can probably carry the oil and give it to someone. It's best to keep them away from the stuff.

usually their fur protects them and the oils do not reach their skin....but the oils can penetrate your skin when you pet them and you can get infected.
