I took my older cat in the room and she started hissing at her. Then she ran away?

keep them seperated but let them see and smell each other often. when you do try putting them together be there and watch. than after a while seperate them again. be patient. it will be better if you take time and do it right. cats are very dominating. the first one there will be the boss. he does not like any other cat invading his territory. you can use a pet carrier . it helps to

Keep them seperate and slowly introduce them to eachother, while you are there. Start out with five minutes together in the same room, but keep a close eye on the cat you already have. Increase it gradually until the older one stops hissing, but DO NOT leave them alone together in the same room without being there!
It also helps to pet both cats and use words of encouragement to the older cat, maybe offer a treat after every meeting with the new cat...over time they will learn to at least tolerate eachother

This is natural, these two need to know their respective places in the household. I bought a 21yr old cat in to my house of already three cats. It took no longer than 2 days for the new addition to sort out the other three. Yes there was lots of growls, hisses, scratching but they have sorted out their respective places within the household. The new addition bosses all the others all the time. You will have to be patient and love them equally. All the best

The exact same thing happend to me...just give it time and they will be best friends. Just a tip though, keep the kitten away from the other cat unless your there, and slowly let them get used to each other, also if there is a certain area that your older cat likes to stay alot, keep your kitten away from there because the older cat may get jelous and bite\hiss/growl

It will take a week to a month for the two of them to decide who is in charge. Cats have a "pecking order." Someone has to be the top cat and your older cat is feeling threatened. Make sure you give your older cat some attention and extra love.

You need to monitor the cats' interactions for a while. This is all very normal and it will take time for them to adjust to one another.

Try putting a little vanilla extract on each of the cats' noses. You can use a little scented hand cream too. (not both, just whichever)

See if you can get them to play together with a cat dancer or a feather toy. This can help them to ease their tensions a little.
Cesar Milan wouldn't agree with me here as he would want them in a calm, submissive state! LOL

You will get a lot of good suggestions here. It takes patience and they will co-exist in peace eventually.

theres nothing you can do. this is normal. i have 4 cats and got each at a different year. you just have to let the dominate cat show that hes/shes the boss and the kitten will learn to respect it.
its more like us giving glaring looks or mean statements to people letting them know that we own something or that we are the boss. the cat will fight the kitten, but give it a month or so, they both will be sleeping together on the same couch cushion before you know it. its just a matter of dominance and territory.

give them time, they'll come around. right now your older cat sees the kitten as a bit of an intruder and is just protecting her ground and making it known that she is the "queen kitty" at your house. just don't force them to be in the same space and they should come around nicely. good luck

Keep them apart for a while. The old one is probably jealous. Maybe it will get over it before too long.
