She licks it a lot and sometimes it gets raw. It's always in the same spot. Does anyone know why this happens and what can I do about it?

It could be a flea problem. My eldest cat (22yrs old) has developed the same problem. It is winter here in Australia, but apart from him always wanting to get closest to the heater, his apetite has not wavered and he is still the 'top cat' of the four that I have. I am not worried, as I do not believe in taking my animals off to the vet's at the drop of a hat. I have used a flea treatment on him but the bare spot remains otherwise he is still a happy and contented cat. All the best, chin up and try not to worry too much.

I'd need some more information about it to really tell you what I think it is----but from the information you've given, it could be ringworm. Usually animals get ringworm and they loose hair on that area, it is raw and there is a "ring-like" effect on the skin; it looks like a raised spiral. I would take your kitty to the vet and have them check this out. Don't touch the spot, because if it is ringworm it can be very contagious. The vet will probably run some tests (bloodwork, swab) to determine exactly what it is, and treat it accordingly. Hope this helps!!

It could be allergies or it could be stress. I had a cat who was an only cat for a while. Then we got a dog and another cat. the first cat was not too happy about the additional animals. She kept licking her stomach area to the point she had no hair there. The vet said it was stress related eventually she stopped doing it and hasn't done it for over 8 years.
