Almost all chickens will lay eggs but unless there is a rooster around they wont become chicks

It takes a rooster AND a hen to produce a fertile egg. All by herself a hen can produce an egg, but it will never hatch.

Well, just like us humans, they have to be fertilized by a male. So no, not all eggs are fertilized.
