I not only thought it, I do it. I've been riding to work for years in car crazy Los Angeles. It's fun, I feel better for doing it, and I've saved a ton of money. Two people at work asked me about it, and now they both ride their bikes to work at least a couple days a week and love it. It's certainly not for every one, but if you can do it, go for it.

I, for one, refuse to ride a bicycle 27 miles to work and back every day, especially during the winter months with ice and snow on the roads and temps in the teens most of the day. Also, there is no mass transit where I live, so the only way to get around is personal motorized transport (car or motorcycle)
Your idea may be OK for someone who lives and works in the same city, but highly impractical for most Americans who commute many miles to and from work every day.

I would love to ride my bike everywhere, but I cannot pull three kids on my bike. It just would not be safe the way people drive around my area. If I were to do this it would be in about 6 years when my youngest can ride a bike safely.

Practice what you preach. In a perfect world this would be great, but I'm commuting 30 miles one way to work. There is no way in hell I'm doing 60 miles on a bike in a skirt and heels. WE, by the way, do a lot of walking when we can.

I do ride my bike when I can
not everytime is possible because of what I have to wear to work ( a skirt/or dress)
I would dread it if blue hairs or hats ( old men and women) rode bikes...
then I'd have to stop
or get killed

How far did you ever ride a bike in snow and ice and o degree weather and we are 70 years old. good luck with us getting around on that idea.
Not only that ---why should we have to.

One tiny little problem with that. Most people commute 20 miles to work. How long would that take on a bicycle? And how would people smell at start of shift?????

You are going in the right direction, but lots of people live too far from their workplace to pedal all that distance, and I live in an area where the winters are too cold, windy and there is lots of snow...

I have my bike ready. Now we just need some dedicated bike lanes in every direction.

I agree. For some people, however, it is not practical. For those who live in the city, close to work and entertainment, they should do it!
