I read some of your previous questions and noticed your son feels more comfy being barefoot w/o socks or even a shirt..it's time to take control and teach your son what is healthy and what isn't .. 10 year olds can be stubborn .. would be better for you to lay down ground rules before leaving the house about this .. unless you'd like the kids at school to give him a hard time about it and he can learn it the hard way .. it's your call :)
In regards to your question however
You can't be sending your son to a pool party with just swimmin trunks, Reason? god i hope you haven't needed to read this far but the reason is pool parties don't usually just run until the afternoon..sometimes they run into the night .. how would you feel wearing soaked trunks for an entire day to the night with temperature dropping? not exactly very comfy is it?

Send him with a backpack with a set of dry clothes, in case they want to do something else.
Send him to the party wearing his swimsuit, t-shirt and some flip flops and of course a towel

No, he will need a towel and a shirt to cover up if it gets cool. He should have a pair of flip flops to walk in the grass. They won't be in the pool all the time. Check with the mother of the birthday boy.

No, that is inappropriate. Besides shoes and a t-shirt you should send an extra set of clean and dry clothes to change into.

Didn't you already ask this?
NO.....the child needs to wear a shirt and shoes until he gets to the pool. Would you allow him to go to the store without shoes and a shirt? It's OK to be AT the pool w/o shoes and a shirt but he needs to be DRESSED to get there.

I would have him wear a t-shirt and flip-flops that he can take off right before getting in the pool. And most importantly have him wear sunscreen!

What is your son going to change into after the party? A wet bathing suit can become uncomfortable. How is he going to protect his feet from the hot pavement.? It is to hard to give him a change of clothes?

I probably would have had him take a shirt and maybe some flip flops, just in case.
