this is not neccsarily an answer for biblical scholars, but rather, geologists, geogarphists, and creation scientists.
As has been proven the amount of water in the ocean is increaing. This means that a long time ago, the ocean was much shallower. It has been found that nearly the intire planet is connected under water by shallow passages that would be dry only thousands of years ago.
This means that she shallow sea floor between Asia and Australia, as weel as a long passage from europ all the way to Canada via greenalnd, would have been accessable for a while after the flood. then, as the ice caps melted, the passages became covered.

Migration across the Alaskan Land bridge. Remember they have found Mamoths there with grass in their bellies up there so it was not always frozen. I am sure it was far after before the native Americans followed because we weren't all seperated until King Nebrakanezer built the tower of babble and we were struck with different languages ect.
Hope this helps

A better question might be, why did God bother with the Ark in the first place. Why did He not simple re-create the animals and people after the flood.

Considering that continental drift had not occured to the point that it has today, the Americas were still attached to the west coast of Africa. So some of the bison made in to America, while others remained in Africa and Asia. Same situation for Australia, which was once attached to Asia.

Noah didn't get the animals where they belong. God used magic to move them there. Why would he need Noah and ark then? Why create creatures that are imperfect only to turn around and destroy them to satisfy some perverse pleasure in killing people and animals.
