Stop talking and get dead quiet. Then they have the nerve to tell you to go ahead or ask you why'd you stop talking. Then you answer, because you're not listening, that's why!

You don't have to be rude but you also don't have to let them get away with it. If you're resolutely polite, it also shows them up to others as an idiot.
