One puts these things in the religious section because it gets a bigger audience, naturally. Interesting to see that one answerer is "preying" for me. Perhaps the religious section has people who need to be reminded to use correct English.

why do people ask question about proper English on the Religion@Spirituality section?

Not all Americans do, it's just one of those things people have problems with. Affect and effect I used to find difficult until becoming a medical transcriptionist. Laying and lying, is so simple, I don't understand it, but I can tell you plenty of MDs dictate, "the patient was seen laying in bed" go figure.

PS, why do people put questions in Religion and Spirituality, when they have nothing to do with that topic??? because NO ONE IS PERFECT INCLUDING YOU!!

you will never catch me lying because it is not good to lie, especially about lye. Should you say the lay of the land or the lie of the land. English is a living language my friend and often self modifies to clear up ambiguities.

OH, this is the religion area, so have faith, Jesus loves you, and everybody is preying for you.

I wish I was making this up.

Sorry, but it's not just Americans who say and do these things. These are common misconceptions throughout all English speaking countries.

How does this have anything to do with Religion and Spirituality? It should be under Languages, or Other - Society & Culture.

I never realized it, but I say both interchangeably. Perhaps it means that I am a brick, squeezing myself into the wall.
