In the US we get 12 weeks maternity leave and where I work it is unpaid. Just curious to know, what country has the longest maternity leave? Is it paid and are you still guaranteed your job when you go back?

The countries that provide the most paid maternity leave by law include: the Czech Republic – 28 weeks; Hungary – 24 weeks; Italy – 5 months; Canada – 17 weeks; Spain and Romania – 16 weeks each. Denmark, Norway, and Sweden all provide extensive paid leave which may be taken by either parent, although a portion is reserved for the mother.

It all depends on your place of employment. Mine for instance is 6 weeks unpaid. But we do have 12 weeks unpaid for the FMLA. (Family Medical Leave Act.) I did hear that France has up to a year for maternity leave.

Where I used to work (here in the U.S.), we were guaranteed job security for one year. Unpaid, except for the first 6wks, and even that was'nt guaranteed paid time off. You had to deal directly with the insurance co. I was paid for my first child, and 2yrs later I went out again with a 2nd child, and they refused me payment. I did appeal it and they still refused.
