My mother in law was that way, and her daughter knew it. But I loved the daughter soooo much that I married her anyway. Our tactic was to stay in the same town (Chicago). We lived far enough that she couldn't drop in, but close enough that we could see her approxl 2X per month. If you move away, then they come to visit for a week. I wd be in jail for murder if that had happened.

Do your boyfriend knows how his mother is? Remember he is only a boyfriend. Parents and child have a special relationship so if he is not the guy you plan on getting married to move on. And if you're having a problem now you will have a bigger one later. Or try to have a sweet heart to heart with her.

ignore her as much as possible. be nice 2 her anyway. if it gets out of hand, u def should talk with ur bf. trick him into seeing how she really is if he doesn't believe u. tape recorder is the key here.

Be polite to her, even though she may seem rude. Treat her like you would want her to treat you, maybe she'll get a clue and warm up to you more. :)

Just try really hard not to looked annoyed or like it affected you it'll piss her off even more. Just look very contained and sweet and nice back....it'll either piss her off even more or she'll actually start to like you..
