Wow loaded question.
Catholics believe before the Bible was written Jesus Christ established an Authoritative Church to proclaim the Word, continue that Last Supper Eucharist established by Jesus, and to choose additional elders of the Church. All of this and more encompass Sacred Tradition (outward signs instituted by Christ to give Grace) Sacred Tradition were the actions that Jesus taught by and administered while still on earth in the human form. This makes sense actually because Jesus knew that most new members did not read or write, so He taught in the most common way, through His example.
Biblically, these Sacred Actions were communicated in Letters by the Apostles or their scribes into Letters to different communities for their elders (Priests). These Sacred Letters became the Holy Bible as translated by Saint Jerome in the 4th century.
Peter as Head of the Apostles was always the Sacred Tradition from the very beginning. The Bible verses which supports Sacred Tradition are Mt 16:18-19, Lk 22:32, Jn 21:17, Mk 16:7, Lk 24:34, Acts 1:13-36, Acts 2:14, Acts 2:41, Acts 15:7, Gal 1:18 to name just a few examples.
Peter's name occurs 195 times, more than all the rest put together signifying a special emphasis on his leadership and relationship with Jesus. Count for yourself! Further Peter's name is always listed first in biblical accounts Mt 10:1-4, Mk 3:16-19, Lk 6:14-16, Acts 1:13.
Peter speaks authoritatively for all the Apostles in Mt 1:21, Mk 8:29, Lk 8:29, Lk 12:41 and Jn 6:69.
This is my reason to believe that Peter and his ministry is unique among the Apostles. I hope it helps.

THE church -- the physique of Christ is "The Church" -- it quite is not any denomination, that are guy-made and admittedly, circulate against what the Bible teaches. There are genuine Christians unfold in the time of all denominations, they are the genuine church. (Peter, btw, isn't the 1st pope WHO replaced HIS call TO PETER to point in any different case! the 1st church is got here across interior the e book of Acts, word the Roman Catholic church does not take place for one thousand greater years!) @vr63 -- LOL, the Baptists and Anabaptists did come from the reformation - you may desire to study some church history! the theory-approximately baptism is Biblical, yet denominations at the instant are not. i've got had lots adventure interior the Baptist church, and that they are greater like modern-day Pharisees than the different denomination i've got ever experienced...all of us comprehend how Christ felt approximately them!

The Scriptures quite clearly teach that the foundation of the Christian congregation (or "church") is Christ Jesus.
The Apostle Peter himself had some interesting comments about the identity of the corner stone of Christianity:
(Acts 4:8-12) Peter, filled with holy spirit, said to them: “...Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom YOU impaled but whom God raised up from the dead... This is ‘the stone that was treated by YOU builders as of no account that has become the head of the corner.’ Furthermore, there is no salvation in anyone else, for there is not another name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must get saved.”
Jesus called himself the "chief cornerstone":
(Mark 12:6-11) He [Jehovah God] sent him [Jesus] forth last to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ ...So they took him and killed him... Did YOU never read this scripture, ‘The stone that the builders rejected, this has become the chief cornerstone. From Jehovah this has come to be
The Apostle Paul called Jesus the "foundation cornerstone":
(Ephesians 2:20) You have been built up upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, while Christ Jesus himself is the foundation cornerstone

The bible claims Jesus gave Peter the "keys" to bind things on earth. And, he would be the foundation for the message.
But, Catholics chose Paul (who was not a disciple or anything else) on which to found their religion. And, Protestants adopted Paul as their "rock."
Peter isn't given much consideration in Pauline "Christianity" (Catholics & all Trinitarian cults).

That means that upon Peter's confession of faith, will the church be built.
Peter confessed that Jesus was the Christ (Messiah)
So by belief that Jesus is the Messiah was the church built. Read Romans 10:9-13

Refers to Matthew 16:13-20
Mat 16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
Mat 16:14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
Mat 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
Mat 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Mat 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Mat 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Mat 16:20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
Catholic theology teachs that Peter is the rock on which the church was built and he held the keys to the kingdom. Those keys have been passed on to each head of the church (known as the pope) since.
Protestant theology holds that the rock on which is the church was built was the revelation that Jesus is the Christ. That revelation is the key to the kingdom, because it is by believing and confessing Jesus' lordship that one enter the kingdom (is saved).

I'm not Catholic, but I've studied this quite a bit. The teaching comes from Matthew 16:17-19.
Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."
Catholics consider Peter to be the first Pope.
Peter is the first to preach the message of Christianity in Acts 2.
v14 -- Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say...
It is on his testimony that the church was started.
v41 -- Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
These three thousand came from all over the inhabited world.
v5-11 -- Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language? Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs-we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!"
These went back to their homelands and spread the Good News. This was the foundation on which the Gospel travelled the world. On this foundation, the apostles, including Paul were able to build the church.
The Christian church has survived all types of persecution and will continue to do so and ultimately prevail!

No, its a missinterpretation of Jesus' statement. Matt 6:18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
The Rock Jesus is talking about is Himself. Peter's name MEANS "rock" but He is never reffered to as the "Rock" Only The Father and Son are
1 Cor 10:4 and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
Hab 1:12 O LORD, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, we will not die. O LORD, you have appointed them to execute judgment; O Rock, you have ordained them to punish.
Peter is HARDLY "The Rock". Jesus said to him "and on THIS Rock I will build my church and the gates of Hades will not overcome it." If He meant Peter, He would have said "upon you". Plus, Only Jesus overcame the gates of Hades, not Peter.

The apostles started the first church based on what Jesus asked them to do, and this was the Catholic Church.
