Gout is a condition where uric acid crystals build up in the body.
This can happen in the area of the big toe and cause a lot of pain.
Our foods contain purines; some foods are higher in this than others.
The doctor may place you on a lower purine diet (of which they will usually provide you a list of foods to avoid. There is also medications that can lower the uric acid in the blood

gout is an excess of uric acid that settles in the joints and is very painful. it is known to affect areas that are cooler, and the most commonly affected area is the big toe. it can be so painful that even having a sheet (on your bed) touch your toe that it is painful.
arthritis is a general term, while gout is a specific type of arthritis. with regards to what arthritis is, the word means inflammation of the joints, but there are many specific types (eg. rheumatoid, psoriatic). patients tend to have flares, with remission episodes possible.
i hope this helps!

Gout is a type of arthritis. It's caused by very plebeian uric acid. Something we all have in our bloodstreams, but with gout you either produce too much, or you produce a normal amount and don't excrete enough.Often the big toe is the prime target, but almost any joint can be affected.

Gout has caused much human suffering and has been studied intently by physicians, since the days of Hippocrates. Once known as "the disease of kings" and "the king of diseases", gout was recognized as one of the leading causes of painful, disabling, chronic arthritis. With advances in research, gout has been all but conquered. People who continue to suffer with gout often are found to be unknowledgeable about new and effective treatments.Alcohol also can increase uric acid levels and precipitate gout attacks.
Elevated levels of uric acid in the blood may result in deposits around the joints (sharp needle-like crystals of monosodium urate). Uric acid also can collect under the skin as tophi, or in the urinary tract as kidney stones.

Gout is an excess of uric acid in the blood and gets deposited as crystals in the joints, primarily of the toes and the pain is exponential. Like arthritis, these uric acid crystals can severely damage the joint and may require surgery after repeated bouts. Foods high in purines have been found to irritate this condition.Dietary changes is imperative to the management of this. Keep in mind, that prolonged increases in uric acid levels can lead to renal (kidney) failure.

Arthritis is the lessening of fluids around the joints to keep them mobile and flexible, so you get stiffening of the joint, and pain. Usually due to age. Gout is the formation of crystals in the fluid around joints (usually of the feet) and mainly brought on by drinking alcohol.
