I thought religion of any sort was supposed to bring out the best in humans , instead we kill and maim in GOD'S name ,no matter what name you have for God , tis can't be right. I'm I the only one who feels that religious war is an oxymoron?

First of all, the war has nothing to do with religion or God's name.
You should study and read about the war more carefully and learn exactly whats been going on for the past years.
In my opinion, if another country, syria for example, gets involved in the war, then we can expect a bloody WW III, knowing that also Iran will then involve itself. Anyway, thats only my opinion. Hopefully the fight will end soon. God knows.

2. Political causes use religions to rouse the masses to do the fighting. Wars are fought in the name of religion, but it is the power hungry that manipulate a cause into a "religious" war.
Fundementalist religions are war (convert or condemn to hell). Spiritual war would be an oxymoron, religious war... I think not.

Some religions do kill in their God's name although some much more than others. Other religions have gotten over that practice almost 1,000 years ago but it seems man will always find a reason to kill.

Honey, I believe it's the beginning of the end. If you are not a christian, then you need to at least read your bible. Its a place to start. Before you are through you will hopefully be a christian. What's happening in the middle east is just fulfilling prophesy.
