Unfortunately... it's very true. I can't believe how little common sense many people have these days. What happened to the days when phone calls were made in the privacy of your own home and not in the middle of a resturant at the dinner rush hour?

If people are so much better educated, why has the educational system had to "dumb down" testing for years? More people have basic education, but the truly educated, are very rare. And, of course, in America, a college education means nothing, since anyone with a wad of money can buy their way into a college. Yes, even Harvard. Look at the Kennedys.
Yeah, I agree with you, people today are pretty ignorant.

My studies and research shows that religious people are not exactly rocket scientists, they tend to be below average intelligence, and also have a tendency to be more violent than non-believers. In some cases, the more violent the person, the more religious they are. I suspect that the vast majority of religious people are well below average intelligence.
I wonder if trying to improve the intellectual standard of our global community, would help remove the various religions from our culture, and thereby improve happiness and peace for humanity.
We need smart kids, not dumb violent children who believe in a God.
It’s a statistical fact that the higher your education, income, and intelligence, the more likely you are not to believe in a god. For every college student that converts to a religious belief system, 17 college students convert to atheist beliefs.
Atheists have an average intelligence of 25 IQ points above their Christian counterparts. It’s no wonder why the USA (75% Christian) is so arrogant, aggressive or violent towards others in this world.
Our innocent children are subjected to so much abuse.
Religion today, irrespective of which religion you belong to, is such a disgrace and a sad reflection on humanity, surely there must be a way to convince our children to walk away from this man-made nonsense and look for a better way.
History and statistics clearly show that religion has miserably failed humanity, and in fact, it’s as close to evil as anyone could imagine. Religion hurts everyone who unfortunately stumbles in its path, especially the minds of young innocent children.
Surely there must be a better way than religion. Humanity has made great progress technologically, surely we at least owe it to our children to find a better answer than religion, and more importantly, do it quickly before we permanently stuff up our world. Our children deserve better.
In my view, churches are major instigators for promoting wrong doing in our societies, and so many so-called preachers sexually abuse young children nowadays. Lots of people have had problems at church, but are just too scared to surface due to the emotional damage and brainwashing they have been subjected to.

I agree wholeheartedly....
Last week I asked a question about starlight travelling billions of light-years to reach us, and how did the fundies account for this if the Earth/universe is only a few thousand years old. One person said "Nobody can even count to a billion, so how do we know these stars are billions of light-years away?"
It is hard to believe that soome people in this day can know less about things that our ancestors from thousands of years ago, but there it was...proof of unintelligence.
I must say I got quite a good laugh from that, though.

STRONGLY AGREE. Even the shows on television are showing the depreciation of education more and more these days. I mean come on, our kids are mindlessly watching stupidity like Spongebob Squarepants and Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Not to mention the Simpsons. Shows that have no moral values or good quality to them at all, and kids are eating it up like it's the greatest thing ever. But it's not just TV. Parents are becoming more lenient on their kids and not teaching them right.

It's the religious people who ARE the ignorant amongst us. Re-read the response from Brenda' World. It's spot on. We need to rid the world of religion for us to advance intelligently and peacefully as a species. Religion will be the end of humanity.

People never really did "believe in God, have patience, raise respectful children, etc." If you read the Bible, it is full of prophets and saints trying to return the straying people back to the straight and narrow path.
At least we do not have the indiscriminate killing and rape of Middle Age wars.

MANNN...did you hit the nail on the head!...i am not sure exactly how old you are but i am telling you todays teens frighten me!...the sheer LAZINESS and wanting something for nothing attitude drives me crazy!....there is NO pride in their work....the total lack of respect...and this is a result of their educated parents who are sooo greedy and self centered! totally motivated by material things....I chose not to be one of those parents, being single and a small business owner....i admit my patience lacks,,,however MY children would RESPECT their elders as i was raised to!....i believe.patience is a learned virtue, and with raising children (meaning actually DEVOTING time to the PROPER raising of them) your patience skills increase!...i FEAR for the generations to come!...and truly am thankful that i DO NOT have children...in my eyes the future looks bleak!...we are in threat of losing our superpower nation status if things do not change! and SADLY my generation has cause this downward spiral!....Kudos to the Gates Foundation!

I have always been a firm believer that the greatest earthly power is the human capacity for stupidity. The fact that God can overcome it, even if in just a few people, truely shows how miraculously powerful he is.

More ignorant in many ways. Common sense and human dignity have been replaced by knowledge and the god of "me".
