Registered Psyciatric Nurse. Yes she can do transfusions but the hospital will certify her.

Policies and procedures vary from institution to institution. In the US with a current nursing shortage, a lot of hospitals may allow LPNs to administer blood as long as the unit and patient ID is checked with another Nurse and that the nurse has been trained on proper procedure during the transfusion - especially educated on the signs and symptoms of a transfusion reaction. The decision to transfuse blood & to order the transfusion can only be made by a physician.

A Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) also known as a Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) is some one who usually has twelve months to two years of training in anatomy and physiology, medications, and practical patient care. LPNs can perform simple as well as complex medical procedures, but must operate under the supervision of either a professional Registered Nurse (RN) or a physician. They can administer most medications (usually with the exception of IV push medications), perform measurements (blood pressure, temperature, etc), record-keeping, help with patient-care planning, surgery, first aid, CPR, sterile and isolation procedure and basic care.

Hope that helps!! :)
