Sometimes the mother cat will seperate a sick, weak or small runt kitten from the rest of the litter so she doesn't have to waste her milk & energy on a kitten that she knows may die anyway. Sometimes she'll even kill it. She'll also pick 1 or 2 kittens to reject if her litter is too large and she can not handle feeding them. In a case of rejection, you may have to feed the kitten some kitten formula with a syringe several times a day in order to keep it from becoming malnuturished. Also, you may want to run the kitten to the vet to have it examined to make sure it is healthy.

Another theory....and a more common one....is that she may have just moved the kitten to a place that she felt was safer and planned on moving the rest...one at a time. That's very common.

A mother cat can sense when her kitten is sick and move it away from the others so as not to "contaminate" the other healthy ones.

First, check kitten's eyes for gunk. If kitten has gunk all over an eye, wipe it with warm, wet toilet paper and it should be healthy because that actually fights eye infections.
If eyes aren't the problem (they usually are), take kitten to the vet and have it checked out.

The other answers are correct. It is sad, but your momcat has decided that something is 'not right' with that kitten that she isolated. If you want it to live, without dying slowly from starvation or whatever may be wrong with it, take it to the vet ASAP. If something is wrong that they can't fix, then they can at least euthanize it quickly and painlessly.

Maybe the mom cat only liked the one she moved and not the others or maybe the other cats r bad influence.
