I've heard this a 10000 times, At least we (athesit) can think on our own...as if that's some intellectual revelation. It's like...look at me I'm a BIG-BOY or GIRL..I can think on my own! What arrogance that is. As if Christian who believe in God as do 96% of all Americans are brain-dead, but they and THEY alone can think because they don't believe in God. This has to be the pinnacle of arrogance and stupity. I have a masters in education and "I believe in GOD" and I believe in the bible and it is the word of GOD.

Let me guess you are 100x more intelligent because you are a pagan....right?

BTW..I've seen and read the "why not to believe in God" web-sites..not very impressed. Looks like college kids away from home...what a joke!

You have to admit that some people who can't answer a question without quoting the bible or using something their preacher told them seem to have a hard time using idependent thought process beyond deciding to believe in God. Like you said, tons of Americans believe in god and obviously the country isn't completely incompetent all the times. The problem is that the Christians/Catholics that get publicity or make the most noise on this site seem to only be capable of thinking inside of what the bible or their religion tells them. When you hear some one say "just have faith" or " God can't be comprehended so don't try" or "it's in the bible so read it" you can't help but think, this person has been brainwashed.

How did this earth come to place? How come you are breathing now? Who made what you see around you? Think just for a second! The most arrogant statement that some can say is, "I can do anything through my own strength!" But if you can do and think anything can you give birth to yourself? Can you stay away from illness forever? Can you stay away from death? No! You can hardly do anything or think anything! I am not a college student just a 14 year old who is a believer of the one true awesome God! I am sorry for my outburst, but I just want you to see a different light!

I'm not an atheist, so I can't speak for them exactly.
However, what I think one of the biggest problem with religion (ANY religion) is that it becomes so ingrained in people that many people (not everyone) let their religion do the thinking for them (or at least on certain issues).
Many people (currently and in the past) follow their religion and follow it to a "t". In other words, whatever the head guy (priest, rabbi, etc.) say, then they do exactly that without a second thought. That's very bad, in my opinion.
So, in that sense, since atheists have no religion, they can't a religion tell them what to do. Still, I'm sure there are just as many "dumb" atheists as there are of any other religion (proportionally speaking).
That's my thinking.

So you "think" that 96% of Americans believe in god? Might want to do a little research and rethink that one.

You can think, but not about anything that isn't in the bible, and if the answer is different than what is in the bible, it must be wrong.

S.H. - Yes you can be brought up in a religion, but you can also CHOOSE to leave that faith. And if you decide to stay with the religion you were brought up in, that in itself is a choice you make. What you're saying can and does happen, but it sounds like you're just ranting about your own problems.

As for the actual question, yes it is arrogant for some atheists - some, NOT ALL - to say that Christians don't think for themselves, but it's also arrogant for some Christians - some, NOT ALL - to try to convert others because they think they need saving.

We (people in general) are very often impressed with themselves.

Everytime Isreal fell to an enemy in the past was because they became confident in their own abilities and forgot God.

Only when in God's grace and following Him, did they prevail or where prosperous.

I haven't ever felt the need to say that myself.

Like everyone else I do my own thinking.

But I can see how if some Jehova's Witnesses or some Evangelicals or some Scientologists knocked on my door and tried to tell me how to think...

then I would probably be motivated to say, "I can think on my own, thank you."

Believing in God does not preclude one from thinking on one's own. In fact, God gave us the brains we have and expects us to use the gift of thinking that He gave us.

There is nothing wrong with thinking on your own. God gave us brains to think on our own. He gave our ancestors brains to realize that God is the most superior being, and people are flawed. And I will admit that I am flawed.

You believe what your were told to believe. You never made the choice yourself...

Most likely, since you were a child, your parents force-fed you the bible every night, etc.
