If you are still in the process of digesting something then you are more likely to get a stitch so it is best to wait after eating before exercise. My biology teacher once said this is because exercise after eating takes needed energy away from the processes in the stomach and to the exercised muscles. Properly warming up before hand and improving fitness should reduce this and taking a rest should make it go

Hello.

Those really hurt! Usually on your right side, just below your ribs?

Stitches are caused by your organs bouncing up and down, stretching the bungee-like tissues that connect them to your diaphragm. Your diaphragm, the muscle you use to breathe with, doesn't particularly care for this repeated abuse and spasms in protest.

This website has some excercises that can help.

stop running into the hospital then. really tho it takes time,do a run to the point where your beyond the stitches and give up and use that time from then on,your body needs to be worked so it knows it has to work harder next time i e it builds more muscle.stick to that time untill its comfortable then up it and start the process over again.it works

If you mean stitches in your side, it is probably due to weak abdominal muscles.

You can strengthen them with crunches, or by doing cardio that works your core muscles (like working out on an elliptical machine that works arms as well as legs, or ice/roller/in-line skating). You can also use one of those exercise balls as a chair (such as while you're on the computer)...the constant re-balancing will strengthen core muscles.

When you exhale and land on your foot at the same time, to stop it, you need to inhale... or is it exhale when you land on the side that it is stitching.. try either way, i forgot which way it is! lol

you havnt warmed up well enough. simple. its your intercostal muscles betwwen you ribs that sort of tangle or pull. try lots of stretching and aerobic excercises when standing still before your run, and dont drink lots just before your run. also.... breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. keep your arms pumping too

it's a build up of lactic acid in your chest wall muscles. Breathing and drinking water helps to avoid that.

your trying to do too much. your lungs cant cope with the amount of oxygen that you need and your body starves of it causing pain.
slow down and build up your fitness slowly.

keep at it and you'll get one fit body x
