I surprised a burglar many years back in an old apartment I had; was July and we were having a terrible storm; left my 2nd floor bathroom window open a crack so the cat could go in and out; went to bed; heard some noises; they stopped; heard something again and remember saying to myself "damn, If I don't check I won't be able to sleep." So I literally jumped out of my bed and ran down the hall into the living room (just wanted to satisfy myself and get back to bed ASAP); There was a burglar going through my purse! I yelled: "What are you doing?" he ran into the kitchen (I guess thinking there was a way out), but came walking slowly back in; he was in black with a mask on; I asked again:"what are you doing?" and his reply was: "Ripping you off." I then said : "well, what did you take?" he said "You didn't have anything worth taking." Now I'm realizing how I'm dressed and start backing up to 1 of my doors by a window and cover my lower half with the curtain; I opened the door and said: "Please, just go." he looked at me and said: "are you sure you want me to go?" I opened it wider and said: "Please!" He walked out, I locked the door and leaned against it thinking how lucky I was; then I hear some light knocks...It was dark on the stairs and he wanted to get back in!!! I grabbed the phone, called 911, cops were there in force within about 2 minutes, talking to me on the phone...They never did catch the guy, but I had to have people sleep over for months afterwards and even slept with a hunter's knife under my pillow and a baseball bat by my bed for a couple of years after that! That Bastard! Next day, I checked my purse and he'd taken only $20.00 bucks and my Grandmother gave me a replacement 20...

I have been burglarized several times. Had my car broke into. My truck involved in a hit and run. Even had pets stolen from my yard. It's a royal pain in the butt. Hope your not still there. No excuse for the cops taking so long.

I was the victim of a brutal sexual assault when I was 20. I won't go into details, but... yeah... you always think it won't happen to you, and then it does. :(

I'm glad nothing happened to you that night!

To elaborate - the assault was by a man who had seen me at my job, brought me flowers, asked me out, took me out for a date, and tried to rape me. He didn't make it that far... I'm a fighter. So, really, he was basically a stranger, because I'd only met him once.
